Will using Clearpay impact my credit score?
Using Clearpay responsibly and making payments on time won't impact your credit score. However, missed payments may be reported to Credit Reference Agencies (CRAs), which could affect your ability to access credit in the future.
A credit score is a number created by a credit reference agency, based on the information in your credit report. It helps other providers assess risk when offering credit or services.
We carry out a soft credit check which is visible to other lenders and has no impact to your credit score. You can learn more about when we perform soft credit checks here.
We don't determine how credit scores are calculated - that's up to the credit reference agencies. If you have questions about your score or how checks affect it, we recommend contacting the credit reference agency directly.
Understanding your credit report can help you make more informed financial decisions. You can request a free copy of your credit report and correct any mistakes directly with the credit reference agency. To get started, visit the Contact us page on TransUnion's website.

Can I request a spend limit increase?
We cannot manually increase your spend limit. Whether you’re a new customer or have been with us for a while, we’ll regularly assess the spend limit that you currently have remains appropriate for you. Our system reviews accounts regularly to assess eligibility for limit increases, and a variety of factors are taken into consideration, including your on-time payment history, how long you’ve been with us, your affordability information and the information contained in your credit report.
There are circumstances that may lower your spending limit, such as missing a payment, lack of spending activity, requesting a spend limit decrease, your affordability information and the information contained in your credit report. Conversely, consistently paying on time helps improve your chances of being assessed for a higher spend limit.
Good to know: You can manage upcoming payments in the Clearpay app, and in some cases, reschedule payments if needed - learn more about this here.

Does Clearpay perform credit checks?
For new customers, we’ll perform a soft credit check to help us assess your application for a Clearpay account. These checks help guide your starting spend limit.
A soft credit check, also known as a soft enquiry, is not visible to other lenders and will not impact your credit score. For more information, see here.
We’ll carry out regular assessments for all customers of their affordability. As part of these assessments:
- We may run soft credit checks, which do not impact your credit score
- These checks are only visible to you and not to other lenders
We may occasionally ask you to confirm information such as your income and expenses. For existing customers we may use information from your credit report to review your spend limit, or ask you to provide additional information in the app. Additionally, we may decline a new Clearpay Plan request, restrict your account, or close your account in certain circumstances.
For example, this may happen if:
- information from affordability or creditworthiness assessments indicates we should not provide further credit;
- we identify adverse information from your credit report;
- you repeatedly breach your Clearpay Plan Terms and Conditions; or
- you fail to make repayments in accordance with your Clearpay Plan.
Where appropriate, we'll let you know if we take action on your account and what this means for your ability to use Clearpay.
