For new customers, we’ll perform a soft credit check to help us assess your application for a Clearpay account. These checks help guide your starting spend limit.
A soft credit check, also known as a soft enquiry, is not visible to other lenders and will not impact your credit score. For more information, see here.
We’ll carry out regular assessments for all customers of their affordability. As part of these assessments:
We may run soft credit checks, which do not impact your credit score
These checks are only visible to you and not to other lenders
We may occasionally ask you to confirm information such as your income and expenses. For existing customers we may use information from your credit report to review your spend limit, or ask you to provide additional information in the app.
Additionally, we may decline a new Clearpay Plan request, restrict your account, or close your account in certain circumstances.
For example, this may happen if:
information from affordability or creditworthiness assessments indicates we should not provide further credit;
we identify adverse information from your credit report;
you repeatedly breach your Clearpay Plan Terms and Conditions; or
you fail to make repayments in accordance with your Clearpay Plan.
Where appropriate, we'll let you know if we take action on your account and what this means for your ability to use Clearpay.
Will a low credit score mean that I’ll receive a lower spend limit?
Your credit score is just one of the things we look at when assessing your spend limit - but it's not the only factor. Other factors such as your payment history with Clearpay (where available) will also be taken into account to determine the most appropriate spend limit for you. Please note this amount is estimated and therefore not guaranteed.
Will Clearpay be sharing my information with credit reference agencies (CRA)?
Missed payments may be reported to Credit Reference Agencies (CRAs). This could affect your ability to access credit in future or make borrowing more expensive.
In line with our commitment to responsible lending, we may also share your personal information with Credit Reference Agencies to help us make lending decisions.
This is a standard industry practice and is explained in our Privacy Policy.
What if the information on my credit report is incorrect?
It’s important to ensure that the information on your credit report is correct. You can request a free copy of your credit report every 90 days directly with the credit reference agency.
